Bokeh is a beautiful photography effect which can be used to create stunning images once you understand how to create it.

Gavin Hoey has all the basic info you need to create bokeh and control it in camera. He then goes on to set up a really simple shot with a household light bulb, before perfecting it in Photoshop.

That last location you said was too risky… would have been a great shot, the ocean spray frozen in motion with the range in the background

Love your videos Thomas… am travelling to Iceland next year in November on a photo tour which will be exciting… and then my plan is to hire a car and do a road trip around the West Highlands of Scotland. A long way from home in Australia… but should be epic!!

Only just stumbled on your channel and am currently binge watching – fantastic videos and just the right blend of geek info and general information to inspire…

I went to that Polar Park in 2014 on a cruise and it's an amazing place. Even paid extra to feed the arctic foxes 🙂 I only had a bridge camera at the time, but since upgraded to an Olympus EM-5 II and hope one day to get even one picture approaching the quality of any of yours!

    Hi Thomas,

It seems you are living my dream at the moment. I travelled to Europe three times last year but I did not have time to go to Norway (and it is expensive as well). As a junior landscape photographer, I am really inspired by you. I hope I have the courage to quit my job and become full-time landscape photographer 🙂

It's nice that you look around with the camera before you scout the area. I like to imagine which way I would have gone to look for a good composition, and then see which spot you picked 🙂 (Btw I have the same tripod, good to see it withstands all kinds of weather). Great videos, thanks for sharing, I really enjoy them.

Man this is fantastic, love your videos! I've been looking at many of them, and they've all given me grand aspiration!
    Your work is amazing!
I've been shooting for a bit more than a year now, my passion is steadily growing.
You seem to use a polarizing filter and a few stops on most of your pictures – none of the equipment I have!
Is the difference major, when doing so and without? Could you perhaps show more of the before and after, as you did with that blue water in the lac? Would be so interesting to see the difference!
My instagram is thewalkingphoto, would be a grand treat to have your feedback! All photos taken in South Africa, around Cape Town 🙂
Much respect to you, you're quite a mentor to me :)

For crisp photo's like yours, is a Nikon D5300 with the kit lens sufficient? Im thinking of getting the Nikkor f1.8 lense after buying the camera :D

    Hello Gavin!
Does the Live View on OMD EM5 II have a DOF preview or did you press a button so it has the DOF preview on the LCD screen?

    Great video btw!
